FUTO holds public lecture

Environmental health and sanitation is fast receiving attention in Nigeria, as various levels of government are trying to put structures that will support it due to its encompassing effect on the health status of people.
Recently Federal University of Technology, Owerri [FUTO], started a degree programme in Environmental Health Technology as part of its effort to increase the number of the practitioners, so as to assist government in discharging her duty. In relation to this, the university is holding its 24th public lecture Monday 30th May, 2011 towards this titled ‘Environmental health and sanitation as a panacea to disease and control’. The lecture will be presented by an associate professor of public health and the coordinator of the programme, Prof Amadi Nkwa Amadi.
The lecture will tell how and why ‘environmental health and sanitation’ could be the solution to Nigeria’s public health problems, and on the other hand, sensitizes the university members and students, that a new course of environmental health exist, as part of FUTO’s pioneer contribution to Public health. More so, FUTO, as at now, is the only university running environmental health at degree level.
